Christian Assault Rifles
December 19th, 2012
Right after the Connecticut shootings, I was shown a poster from a Christian school selling raffle tickets for an AR-15 assault rifle.
I am troubled by the way many Christians are disconnected from Christ and his teachings. As a child and young adult, I attended a Pentecostal church. I have read the New Testament twice and much of the Old Testament. I am now an agnostic.
So many of the attitudes to which the present Christian church clings are biblical parables, not intended to be taken literally, or are outdated and now irrelevant sensibilities. God’s plan for mankind is pragmatism and adaptability; otherwise, He would not have allowed us this mind that we have. Pandora’s box is open, and all possible depravations of mankind are known. We must no longer do what feels good and then ask God to forgive us for our ignorance and selfishness. We must start thinking for ourselves!
Someday soon, diplomats and peacemakers will be the most important people in the world. Religion, money and war will not save us; we will have to look inside ourselves for salvation. Tolerance is the key; we must come together, or our human world will fall apart into anarchy.
